Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported 289 new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths on Wednesday.


U.S. identifies first COVID-19 omicron variant case, KERA reports. Authorities say the first U.S. case of the omicron variant has been discovered in California, detected in a person who recently returned from South Africa. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is tightening U.S. testing rules for travelers from overseas, including requiring a test for all travelers within a day of boarding a flight to the United States. Post-arrival testing is also being considered.


Federal Judge blocks Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for healthcare workers, The Texas Tribue reports. After Texas and other states challenged the order, the vaccination mandate for healthcare workers has been stopped from going into effect nationwide next week. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called the mandate “an unprecedented federal vaccine decree” on health care workers.


Dallas Cowboy’s COVID-19 list grows, The Dallas Morning News reports. Coach Mike McCarthy has taken on a new mindset towards COVID after having a breakout in his team.  “Just like anything, I think, playing the high side of safety, you have to,” McCarthy said. At least nine players and coaches won’t be in New Orleans when Dallas faces the Saints on Thursday.
