Ahem, a Heim Barbecue Location Reopens
After a fire in November that forced a months-long closure, Heim Barbecue is back, baby. Its Dallas location on Mockingbird Avenue reopened on Valentine’s Day. Aww, that’s amore. Best scurry over for some bacon burnt ends tacos, corn dogs, and green chile mac to welcome them back.
Bresnan Bread Finally Opens McKinney Bakery
Word came by way of Instagram that the bread bakers and pastry peddlers at Bresnan Bread are ready to debut their bakery at 301 East Lousiana St. in McKinney. Owners and couple Jenna and Matt Bresnan, of whom we’re big fans, had plotted this bakeshop for a good long while. The duo missed their aspirational September opening of the bakery—a place where gluten-lovers can get their fill* of rustic loaves of levain, almond croissants, kouign-amanns, morning buns, and Danishes, which are a canvas for seasonal fruit.
*The Bresnans note that due to our cursed supply chains, not everything is ready. There is still some work in progress, but the delightful news is that you can still get the (baked) goods. And, actually, that’s great news. They bust open the bakery doors on Saturday, February 26. (Preorder and pick-up is available.)
Brown Bag Provisions Closes—Temporarily (Hopefully)!
In other baked goods and deli news, Brown Bag Provisions closed. The Design District deli, with truly some of the best sandwiches in town, fell behind on rent and bills because of the latest omicron surge. In response, the landlord locked owners Brent Hammer and Stephanie Gilewicz out of the shop, per the Dallas Morning News. But the couple hopes it’s a temporary closure. They’ve been working with their landlord throughout the pandemic and hope to raise money to get open again. They’ve raised more than $10,000 of their $25,000 goal on GoFundMe so far.
Alamo Drafthouse Expands to Grand Prairie
Movie-lovers, it’s official: Alamo Draft House is opening seven new theaters across the nation. One of the projected locations will be Grand Prairie, which is scheduled to open at the beginning of 2024, according to the latest press release and this Eater Dallas dispatch.
Alamo Drafthouse is known for its in-theater, film-inspired meal services. The new DFW opening will be taking the level of luxury even higher with a new 66-foot-wide curved screen, comfortable recliners, and high-quality surround sound speakers. Additionally, there will also be a full-service bar offering cocktails, wine, and local beers on tap.
The Padaek Brings Thai and Laotian Food to Irving
There will be a new Asian restaurant serving both Thai and Laotian food at 120 South Main St., reports Dallas CultureMap. This new dining spot, The Padaek, is anticipated to open mid-February. The founders are two couples: Art and Manee Suttisaragara and Pithananan “Pete” Saosud and Khonemany “KC” Chanthasone. Both couples, who are of Thai and Laotian heritage, can’t wait to bring their homestyle recipes and spiciest dishes to DFW. Although the menu is a work in progress, some of the items offered will include Leng Saeb (spicy soup with pork bone), pad Thai, and pad see eew (a stir-fried dish with wide flat noodles).
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams Headed to Lower Greenville
The popular and ever-growing (we have a scoop shop in Deep Ellum and another up in Addison) Jeni’s ice cream chain will install a shop at 2012 Greenville Ave., which previously housed Steel City Pops (a 2021 pandemic casualty), according to Dallas CultureMap. Opening date is as of yet to be determined.
Pizzeria Moving into Former Hide Cocktail Bar Spot in Deep Ellum
Deep Ellum doesn’t want for pizza spots, with Cane Rosso, Serious Pizza, and Mama Mia Pizza and Pasta in the neighborhood. But really the more marinara the better!
